Each year, approximately 300,000 workplace or sports eye injuries occur in the United States. Shockingly, 90% of these injuries could have been prevented if the person had proper eye protection. Whether in hazardous work environments, extreme sports, military fields or demanding conditions, high-quality protective eyewear is essential to safeguard vision from impact, chemicals, dust, and other dangers.
At La Giardiniera, we design and manufacture eyewear that meets the highest safety standards, including ANSI Z87+. Our commitment to quality ensures that sports passionates, workers and military personnel receive superior eye protection in even the most extreme conditions.
Understanding ANSI Z87.1 and Z87+ Standards
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) developed the ANSI Z87.1 rating to create a standardized certification system for safety eyewear based on workplace hazards or sportive activities risks. Protective or safety glasses, depending on the design and features, can protect from:
- Impact Resistance
- Heat Exposure
- Chemical or Liquid Splash
- Dust Protection
- Radiation Exposure
Safety glasses that meet the ANSI Z87.1 standard are marked with “Z87”, while those that achieve higher impact resistance are marked “Z87+”. The presence of the “+” symbol indicates that the eyewear has passed rigorous impact tests that go beyond the basic requirements of ANSI Z87.1.
Z87+ High-Impact Testing
For eyewear to be Z87+ certified, it must pass multiple demanding impact tests:
- Drop Ball Impact Test: A 1-inch diameter steel ball weighing 2.4 oz is dropped from a height of 50 inches. To pass, the lens and frame must remain intact.
- High Mass Impact Test: A 500-gram pointed weight is dropped from 50 inches onto a lens mounted on a head form. The lens must remain unbroken, and no fragments can detach.
- High Velocity Impact Test: A ¼-inch steel ball is shot at various impact points:
- Safety Glasses: The ball travels at 102 mph
- Safety Goggles: The ball travels at 170 mph
- The eyewear must not break, and the lens must not come into contact with the simulated eye.
- Penetration Test: A weighted needle with a minimum weight of 44.2g is dropped from a height of 127 cm to test lens durability.
La Giardiniera eyewear successfully meets and exceeds these tests, producing goods that are eligible to be compliant with ANSI Z87+ ceritifcation.
Protection from Occupational Eye Hazards
La Giardiniera eyewear provides superior protection in demanding environments. Protective eyewear is specifically engineered to shield against high-speed projectiles, dust, and debris.
Ballistic eyewear incorporates wraparound designs for enhanced coverage and impact resistance, while tactical goggles offer even greater protection in high-risk situations. Additionally, UV protection and specialized lens tints improve visibility and reduce glare in various environments.
La Giardiniera: Eyewear Marked with ANSI Z87+
La Giardiniera is dedicated to producing eyewear that meets high safety standards. Our frames, equipped with durable and impact-resistant lenses, are rigorously tested and eligible for marking with:
- ANSI Z87+ (High-Impact Safety Standard)
By choosing La Giardiniera safety eyewear, professionals can trust that they are wearing protective glasses designed for maximum security and durability in the most demanding environments.
